Maria Semple

Bestselling Novelist and Screenwriter

Wednesday, May 16, 2018

Bittersweet, hilarious, wholly original, wacky and deeply touching are some of the many superlatives used to describe the fiction of Maria Semple. She is a writer whose genius springs from the bad choices and outrageous circumstances that motivate her characters. Semple’s novels are This One is Mine (2008), the bestselling Where’d You Go, Bernadette (2012), and the recently published Today Will Be Different (2016). Where’d You Go, Bernadette spent a year on the New York Times bestseller list and is in development as a major motion picture. Before “escaping Los Angeles” and devoting herself solely to fiction, Semple wrote for television including the shows Beverly Hills, 90210, Mad About You, and Arrested Development. She was born in Santa Monica, CA and currently lives in Seattle, Washington.

“Outrageously funny…Ms. Semple is an immensely appealing writer.” – Janet Maslin, New York Times
