Michael Ondaatje is a novelist whose work also encompasses poetry, memoir, and film. His classic bestselling novel, The English Patient won the British Commonwealth’s highest honor, the Booker Prize, the Canada Australia Prize, the Governor General’s Award and was later made into an Academy Award-winning film. In 2018, it was named the best winner of the Booker Prize of the last 50 years, in a public vote. His newest novel Warlight, was published in May 2018. Anil’s Ghost was the winner of the 2000 Giller Prize, the Prix Medicis, the Kiriyami Pacific Rim Book Prize, the 2001 Irish Times International Fiction Prize and Canada’s Governor General’s Award. Ondaatje grew up in England, then moved to Canada where he received his Bachelor of Arts from University of Toronto and a Master of Arts from Queen’s University in Kingston Ontario. Michael lives in Canada with his wife Linda Spalding.
